The touch of a rose petal reminds us of your skin.
The sound of newborns crying makes us cry.
The sight of your brothers playing together makes us miss you.
The smell of honeysuckle makes us think of you.
The thought of you in paradise with us makes us joyful.
(I am submitting these 50 words as our memorial for Karli in the Walk to Remember coming up on September 23, 2006 in Washington Park in Springfield. It will be published within the booklet that will be given out to attendees)
As we advance in life it becomes more and more difficult, but in fighting the difficulties the inmost strength of the heart is developed. Vincent Van Gogh

Old State Capital
This is sort of finished but am waiting for feedback on one of my new favorite sites: WetCanvas

What do you think? Don't worry about hurting my feelings. I really want to know so I can do better.
And the one I used to model the painting after:

Oh and here is the original photo:

Skyscraper Tavern--Now a work of Art

Remember the post about the Skyscraper Tavern aka The Patch. Well I finally finished the painting I did of the photo that one of my readers, Joe Blackwell, sent me.
Here is the finished work, (unless I feel the need to touch it up):
It is a little blurry but you get the idea. When I told several people (all family) the subject of my newest painting, they thought I was strange for doing this. They thought it a strange thing to paint but my feeling is that this is a historical building that is gone forever. It is my way of commemorating a place that is part of Taylorville's history. (ok, so I am a little weird).
Here is the original photo:

I was going for a Van Gogh feel.
Feel free to let me know what you think. The only way I can get better is if I have feedback.

Abba Gold

Wow has if been that long..
...Since my last post.
It has been a crazy July and August. I have not taken many photographs and have not felt much like posting anything. A friend told me it is sometimes good to take a break from certain hobbies so you don't get burnt out on them.
Here is what I have been doing this summer...
Painting like mad: JP told me I should take some photos and try to paint them so that is what I have been spending a lot of time doing. I think I may enter one of them in the "On my Own Time" sponsored by the Springfield Arts Counsel, I also may photograph the final works to post here or on my art blog.
Decatur Celebration: I ate gator on a stick, had a deep fried twinkie and watched ABBA Gold (a tribute band for Abba). I like them and got some photos that I may post later.
While I was a the Decatur Celebration, I met some people who own an art gallery. They told me I can bring in some of my paintings and they will see if they think they are good enough to hang.
Six Flags: Road a ride that I could not even scream on because you fall so fast that your breath is taken away, (Superman, Tower of Power)
State Fair: I saw Loverboy, Blood, Sweat and Tears as well as Foreigner. I liked that the guy from Three Dog Night came and played with BS&T. He did my favorite TDN song called "Mama told me not to come". I also indulged on another fried twinkie.
Remember the fellow that I posted about that had the photograph of the Skyscraper Tavern from 1981. I am attempting to paint that now. I started it tonight and am not sure how it will turn out but I am hoping it will be good.
Today my wife and I celebrated our 14th year of marriage. Can you believe it only feels like 5 minutes................................................(long pause),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Under water.
I love that joke, but seriously, we are very happy together. She is a great woman....(she reads my posts sometimes) HE HE.
Well, I should post a photograph so here is one for your viewing:
Guess where this was taken....
